Marcus and Zoë with ice-creams. The chap on the horse behind them is Francisco Pizarro, a former local lad who turned conquistador and conquered Peru in 1532 with just 180 men, destroying the Inca empire in the process. Marcus and Zoë in Guadalupe's 16th century hospeder’a, site of Spain's first human dissection of 1402. The rooms overlook the gothic cloisters, which are part of the famous monastery. Zoë and Marcus in the shadow of the Roman aqueduct at Segovia, which was in use until the late 19th century. It was built at the end of the 1st century AD by the Romans, and is 728 meters long with a maximum height of 29 meters. We got caught up in the Tour of Spain bike race near Bilbao. Forced by the police to park up by the side of the road, we had to wait for the pack to complete the stage. Here they are doing about 75 kph. This is the top of the Puerto del Asín pass (682 m) in the Cantabrian Mountains near Bilbao. We pigged out on a picnic of fresh bread and cheese, washed down with a cold beer.

This is near the top of the Portillo de Lunada pass (1350 m) in the Cantabrian Mountains near Bilbao. We managed to do 2,700 kms in two weeks with the diesel Renault Scenic, which was happy to cruise at 140 kph (but not when going over the mountain pass). Fran with Marcus and Zoë at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao. I think we all thought the building was great, the contents generally unspeakably poor.
